Hike for Hospice
On the first Sunday in May communities across Canada join together to hike to raise funds and awareness for hospice palliative care. All of the funds raised in Powell River stay here to help provide support to those dying and their families at end of life. The Hike for Hospice Palliative Care is, in part, coordinated by the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association, the national association that provides leadership in hospice palliative care and end-of-life care in Canada. Locally, the hike is coordinated by the Powell River Hospice Society with much support from local business, organizations and the many people and teams in the community who get pledges for their hike. The hike takes place along the Willingdon beach trail and is an accessible and family friendly event. Lots of prizes, music, food and fun. Come on out and join us!
Part of the Hospice Society’s mission is to help educate the public about death and end-of-life issues. The public is invited to documentaries movie screenings, workshops, speaker presentations and more.
Tree of Life
Hospice volunteers work to raise awareness about the Hospice Society, end-of-life and how people grieving can cope with the holidays. This event is also an opportunity to remember a loved one by participating in the community ritual of placing a name on the Tree of Live.
